Adding to my review 5 months ago. I recommend her just as highly today as when I wrote my first review. Since then, she's moved her studio to a beautiful rooftop space, and it's such a special environment to practice in. The outdoor setting is peaceful and energizing, with an indoor option available too. What continues to set Evan apart is the quality of her instruction. Classes are now private instruction or duets. The personalized attention to detail is fantastic. She isn't afraid to correct your form, which is exactly what makes her teaching so effective. Every movement has a purpose, and she's always focused on proper alignment and long-term strength over ego or heavy springs. I've corrected habits I didn't even realize I had, and it's made a noticeable difference in how I move. Make the switch. If you've been to a big Pilates class and the instructor hasn't corrected your form, you're not getting your money nor time's worth! Evan's rooftop is great.
I can’t recommend Jack and Jill Pilates enough. I've been going regularly for the last two years and it's one of the best investments in my health. The group classes feel more like semi-private sessions (5 people or fewer), so you get a ton of personalized attention from Evan to detail and form. Evan is incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about classical Pilates. What really sets her studio apart is that she corrects you. I’ve been to other Pilates studios before, and some bad habits went unnoticed, but at Jack and Jill those habits get fixed and you can feel the difference. She’s strict in the best way: making sure every movement is intentional and aligned properly with no shame in going down in weight to make sure proper form comes first. This isn’t a trendy, loud, chain, studio - it’s focused, no-frills, and all about building real strength, especially those small stabilizing muscles you didn’t even know existed. Since I spend 8+ hours a day working at a computer, this has been a game changer for my posture and overall body awareness. I leave every session feeling stronger, more aligned, and motivated to keep improving. If you’re looking for thoughtful instruction, injury prevention, and a deeper connection to your body, this is the place.
I came to Pilates with some hesitation – I had never tried it before and honestly thought it was “something for women.” I decided to give it a shot while going through chemo, when I was bedridden and looking for a way to rebuild strength. Over the course of more than twenty private sessions with Evan, she has helped me regain strength in my legs and the rest of my body during treatment and into remission. It’s challenged me in ways I didn’t expect, improved my posture, and given me a whole new appreciation for this form of exercise. Evan is a real character in the best possible way. She’s done her homework to understand my condition and my limitations, and she always knows exactly how far to push me. Her adjustments are spot on – sometimes she’ll have me tweak the tiniest movement and suddenly an entirely new muscle lights up. On top of that, she’s sharp, funny, and wonderfully direct. She remembers little details from weeks earlier, isn’t afraid to be a smart-ass, and can go on rants that are both hilarious and wise. If you’re open to her sense of humor (and sometimes a little bit of colorful language), you’ll enjoy the sessions even more. With her background as a dancer and stuntwoman, Evan brings a unique perspective and depth of experience to her teaching. The studio itself is no-frills – which I see as a plus. It’s not about chasing a “scene,” it’s about learning from someone who’s a true expert in Pilates and anatomy. I can’t recommend Evan and Jack and Jill Pilates enough, especially if you’re serious about building strength and want someone who really knows what they’re doing.
