About

Excel Pilates DC is a Pilates studio in Edgewood that reviewers describe as a studio with a high standard of practice rather than a gym. Long-time members say they have attended since 2001 and keep learning something new, while others call it both the kindest and the most technical studio they have been to. Mat, duet and virtual classes are mentioned, along with a trainee program and a free introductory class. Instructors are described as kind, knowledgeable, friendly and good at breaking Pilates down for beginners, and one student credits weekly training with improved flexibility and strength. The criticisms are about access: beginner classes fill up quickly, progression to a higher level needs clearance, and one reviewer would like more early-day intro classes.

I have been going to this studio since 2001, and there are not many exercise regimens I have kept up religiously and for such a long time. I learn something new every time I visit and love the vibe, instructors, and the other students. This isn't a gym, but a studio with a high standard of practice serving all bodies. Lesa McLaughlin runs a solid studio with a high standard of practice. She trains new instructors every year. If you are interested in learning classical Pilates, this is the community for you.

Love the instructors here!!! They're kind, knowledgeable, and friendly. I've done in person (mat and duet) and virtual classes. You can try a free introduction class to see if it is a good fit for you 😉

Have never taken Pilates. They break it down well for beginners. So far so good. I will continue to go. I just wish they had at least 2 early in the day intro classes a week.
