I didn’t used to be an early riser but now I look forward to Dolma Sherpa’s Sunrise Yoga classes. She starts with a calming, relaxing vibe to help you fully wake up and then you are off. Your heart is pumping, the heat is rising, and you are ready for whatever challenge Dolma throws your way. Dolma is so supportive and super encouraging. The class is open level so she offers variations but she fosters such a positive space that you want to push yourself even if it doesn’t work out. You leave feeling lighter and stronger and with great energy for the day ahead. I also would recommend any class with Jen SanMiguel, Annamaria Santamaria and Elaine O’Brien.

I've been attending Sandhya's Hatha Yoga classes for a year now, starting out as a complete beginner. Sandhya has been amazing! She is great at accommodating everyone and modifying poses so that I can practice at my own pace. Everyone really has been very friendly and welcoming. The studio provides all the equipment you need, and class sign-up is simple, so it is easy to just show up and give them a try.

I am grateful that Second Story Yoga made its home in Jackson Heights. The first class I attended ( In Studio Props + Flow on Thursday afternoons at 1pm taught by Francesca Bove) is still one of my favorite classes to attend four months later. In this class we learn how to use the different props and incorporate them into our flow practice. I love this class because Francesca is very creative and eagerly shares her vast well of knowledge with us. She comes to each class with a different exercise and I always feel like I am learning something new. She knows how to meet each student where they are and teachers different modifications based on the needs of everyone in the class. My only complaint is that I wish she taught more classes;) I also want to highlight Sandhya Kaurwar and Joshua Gonzalez. Sandhya teaches Open Level Hatha Yoga on Tuesdays at 5:30. Her teaching is deeply compassionate and I feel that she teaches the importance of the mind/body connection and taps into the spiritual connection one can have practicing yoga. I always leave each class feeling renewed and calm. With each class I have found a better understanding of myself. Thank you so much Sandhya. Second Story is so lucky to have you! Joshua teaches Pilates Mat on Wednesdays. With his background in dance he is a able to keep the flow and discipline needed in a Pilates class. He gives incredible instruction and examples so that the class is easy to follow from beginners to the advanced. His class really pushes each student and I look forward to the challenge each week!
