Having been a practitioner of sivananda yoga for 10+ years, I have tried to continue my classes with this sole sivananda yoga studio in NY despite numerous issues such as lack of ventilation in the studio, inconsistent quality of teachers, constant pressures to enroll directly with them than through classpass. But after a sudden policy for dress code that was individually shared with me (and not displayed anywhere else) that I need to cover my shoulders during peak summer in NY in a studio without any aircon, it became clear that there was no point in continuing with a patronizing and badly run studio. Maybe they reconsider posters of guruji practicing yoga in his underwear plastered all across the studio as well. Too bad that the folks running this are ruining the Sivananda yoga brand!

When I want a true yoga experience, this is the place. Very traditional and I always feel at peace.

One of the original yoga centers in NYC, with an emphasis on the spiritual side of the practice. 90 minute open sessions are insanely affordable, but reservations are required. Bring your own towel, they have mats. Every session includes the same routine of chanting, breathing, and postures, and they will help beginners get sorted out. A really special place.
